Summer BURNS a lot away.
AND...summer helps us see.
Summer is different — maybe the most different of the seasons. The heat, the energy, the way we tend to our own restoration, and as a result, the way we're witnessed and need others, is different too. This might be the most crucial season for being seen. We're not in the deep throes of winter, or fall's recomposting, or spring's little buds. We're in our full power.
And yet — while summer is a time of action, fire, and energy, we've also been sharing a lot of opportunity to rest. Perhaps rest a little differently than, say, winter. But rest and reflect nonetheless.
One of the things that seems to come up most often in summer, but is rarely talked about, is the power of grief. As summer's blaze gives us a sobering clarity and distillation to see differently, grief can be a vital part of that experience. And when we say grief, we don't mean grief in the topical sense — not just sadness, not just disappointment, not just heartache, or any other conventional read of that word.
For many of us, there is grief around creativity. We are asked to fall in line with our personal expression and creative gifts, often stifling them, making us feel like they were stolen from us.
The good news: they were never lost.
We see grief as a vital ingredient — the thing that transmutes the ashes of summer into the composting we'll need for fall and the colder months ahead.
How do we get there?
Plot twist: joy, rest, and creativity.
All of these states are deeply interdependent in ways we often gloss over or ignore. For as much as grief can bring sadness, it can also bring in vital joy, pleasure, and enjoyment.
We're not asking you to "grieve" when you connect with our Summer Guide, attend our 8/8 Lake Retreat, or join the Liberation Lab community in September.
What we do know is this:
Once we make space for the full sphere of ourselves to grow,
we make space for an even deeper state of aliveness, purpose, and connection than we could ever imagine.
Dive In. It's time.
Whether that's in your own work with our summer guide, Lily Lake on 8/8, or embodied leadership in Lab.
Warmly,
Ruthann + Yoli
